If using the default world, the player first spawns in a particular town near the center of the world. Many other towns exist in various parts of the world, marked by town icons on the map. As you wander around the world, you may meet [[RtSim NPCs]] who will tell you which town they're traveling to. In each town, you will find a handful of houses as well as a (relatively empty) stone tower. Houses may contain items and loot, and towns in general may be host to [[Getting Started|merchants]] whom you might be able to interest in a trade.

Veloren worlds contain various kinds of sites for players to explore, some of which are more developed than others. The kinds of sites labelled on the map are described here along sites that aren't shown on map.

Castles

Main Article: Castles

Similar to giant trees, large, walled castles are currently in Veloren and are present in the world as sites for RtSim NPCs to travel to, but have yet to serve a proper purpose.

Caves

Main Article: Caves

Inside a cave.

Caves are natural structures also marked on your map. Ores, Gems and monsters are most commonly found inside including chests. More valuable ores, gems and tougher enemies spawn deeper in caves. Who knows what lurks? Are you prepared to plumb the depths, adventurer?

Dungeons

Main Article: Dungeons

Inside the dungeon

Dungeons are runic structures which can be identified on the map as a monster face along a difficulty level (dots). They consist of a maze of rooms which span 4-5 floors. Dungeons with difficulties 1-3 are doable by a solo player; above that, you may want to find a group. (It's also more fun!)

On entering the dungeon you’ll descend a long, spiral staircase that will eventually exit at the first dungeon level, deep below ground. Each level has a series of corridors and rooms containing hostile enemies and treasure chests. The most rare and powerful loot in the game can be obtained from dungeons!

Make sure you’re well stocked up on healing items before attempting your first dungeon.

Giant Trees

Main Article: Giant Trees

Although giant trees are currently in the game and are generated at various locations across the world, they have yet to serve much of a non-aesthetic purpose. According to DevBlog #106, the hope is that they will eventually become sites containing villagers or small towns.

Sites are hidden locations on maps that you may come across during exploration. They are randomly generated in certain biomes.

Dwarf Tomb

Dwarfs's tomb.

Some dwarf tombs are scattered across Veloren with a strange floating stone. Not much is know about the purpose of those tombs as Veloren's ingame lore will be procedurally generated. It may be a remains of an old dwarf kingdom, a huge relay or a hidden structure beneath your feet. Whatever is clear is that dwarf robbers have settled their hideout so we advise adventurers to stay away from these sites as we cannot guarantee their safety.

Fallen Tree

Fallen Tree

A large tree that has been hollowed out, with chests found within. Deadwoods can often be found around these, but Mandragora and Mossdrakes can also be found.

Hyena Lair

Hyena Lair

Hyenas live in packs in the desert near these giant skull structures. It may be from a dinosaur species, perhaps 200 time bigger than the Archaeos you just escaped by a hair's breadth. Whatever it was, we are lucky it's dead and serves for hyena's teething at the present time. Judging by their open jaws, you might be their next meal.
